{"id":2919,"date":"2012-08-08T04:09:24","date_gmt":"2012-08-08T11:09:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jasonbot.com\/?p=2919"},"modified":"2012-08-08T04:11:14","modified_gmt":"2012-08-08T11:11:14","slug":"twice-as-crabby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/jasonbot.com\/?p=2919","title":{"rendered":"Twice As Crabby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today&#8217;s sketches are two versions of one character&#8211;the twisted and indestructible crab\/robot warrior known as <a href=\"http:\/\/tfwiki.net\/wiki\/Rampage_(BW)\">Rampage<\/a>, from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beast_Wars\">Transformers: Beast Wars<\/a>. On the left we have a sketch based on his animation model, and on the right a sketch based on his toy:<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbot.com\/bootlegsketch\/markerrampageweb.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbot.com\/bootlegsketch\/markerrampageweb.jpg\" style=\"cursor: hand; width: 300px;\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-size:78%;\">click above for larger view<\/span><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>These sketches are a thank you gift, and I started out basing my drawing on reference photos of the toy. It&#8217;s been a while since I watched Beast Wars, so I didn&#8217;t realize that the animation model was so different&#8211;many of the character models in Beast Wars <i>are<\/i> more similar to their toy counterparts. Unfortunately, it wasn&#8217;t until I finished inking the sketch that I figured it out.<\/p>\n<p>I could have scrapped the toy-version sketch, or jury-rigged it by using the colors of the animation model, but it was so close to being done I just decided to finish it and then start the proper version separately. The cartoon portrayed Rampage as a distinct character with a bit of complexity, so I wanted to acknowledge that with a more accurate drawing.<\/p>\n<p>(These sketches will count as my two for this week. Holding steady at 3 missed posts.
