And since each human character in the cast fills the role of a classic teen archetype, I decided to cast Scooby as a beach bum. The Scooby Gang\u2019s base of operations varies from version to version, but I dig the idea of them being based out of California, so the role of beach bum felt even more appropriate for our main character.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Velma Dinkley:<\/strong> This series of redesigns started when I was sketching out Velma. I liked how she turned so I kept going! She&#8217;s sensible, grounded, and undeniably the brains of Mystery Incorporated&#8211;but when a mystery really gets a hold of her, she&#8217;ll stop at nothing!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Norville \u201cShaggy\u201d Rogers:<\/strong> I always thought he had a skater vibe\u2014it just makes sense for both his look and his slacker personality. Plus I like the paradox of him being a scaredy-cat when the gang is on a caper, yet being fearless when skating. You will note that his skateboard somewhat matches his other vehicle, the Mystery Machine (coming in a future post maybe??)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daphne Blake:<\/strong> Her original design is so appealing and enduring, therefore Daphne is the character I redesigned the least. I see her as a bit of the group&#8217;s leader, and if she happens to fall into the damsel-in-distress role in any given caper, it&#8217;s because she&#8217;s often boldly charging into the unknown!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fred Jones:<\/strong> The preppy rich kid (note: family crest monogramed on sweater plus matching belt buckle) who\u2019s an outcast because of his obsession with mysteries and traps. I love a utility belt, so Fred\u2019s trap fixation was a good excuse to draw him with some tools and gear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbot.com\/bootlegsketch\/MIgroupweb.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jasonbot.com\/bootlegsketch\/MIgroupweb.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With all of these redesigns I was going for costumes that have the recognizable flare of the original, but wouldn&#8217;t feel jarringly out of place in modern times. Plus I gave everyone more practical shoes for adventures and hijinks! I have some ideas tumbling around my brain for a \u201cwave 2\u201d of redesigns, with some more twists.
