… I have a blog, don’t I?
I have been busy working on a thing, which eventually will be posted here. BUT NOT RIGHT NOW. Posts and make up posts will be posted here shortly. Apologies, as always, for the delay in service, dear readers.

So first I drew myself as a Naruto-style ninja, and then Jazyl did the same. This got Jazyl, Dylan, and myself talking about drawing ourselves as a Naruto-style three-man ninja cell.
We talked about our characters a little, Jazyl continued to refine his design, and I even pencilled my avatar out (though I never scanned it and therefore never showed anyone). But as happens, we all kind of got busy and forgot about it. That was 3 years ago, and last week Jazyl posted this:
BAM! Such an awesome piece, that I’m totally honored to be portrayed in (that’s me on the right with the mohawk, naturally). Please do yourselves a favor and check out Jazyl’s Deviant Art gallery, he’s a great illustrator!
So, the gauntlet has been thrown–now Dylan and I both need to draw a group shot of the three of us as ninjas. For me, the first step of that process is finally inking up and coloring the picture I drew of my own shinobi avatar:
The original story for our characters was that we were going to be ninjas from the village of Hidden Wacom. Three deadly digital art ninjas, if you will. As you can see, my avatar is armed with ancient relics–a Wacom Graphire II tablet (shoulder), along with a stylus (pendant), and mouse (hand guard). And yes, for those who are wondering, I’m still rocking all my digital art with a Graphire II from like 1999.
This is a more basic design, so I will probably change things up when I draw the completed group shot. I feel like the bar has been raised! Also, Jazyl has developed the story more, and now he has assigned our ninjas to the village of Hidden Paint, which definitely sounds classier. In the end, each piece will be it’s own take on the matter, but I think that’s the fun part. I’m making the ninja group shot a short-term goal, so stay tuned–more on this as it develops!
That title is an SNL Church Lady reference by the way, I’m not just invoking the name of Satan for no reason.
However, here is a leftover commission of Vertigo Comics’ Lucifer:

I’m running pretty low on these leftovers. Regular service may resume soon-ish! Dare to dream!
I went to Seattle and ECCC for the first time last week. A great convention, and a great city–I had tons of fun! For your enjoyment, here are some sketches I did during the show:
This is the kinda junk that I thought was funny back in 1999. Okay, I still think it’s funny.

To be honest, I was, and still am, totally freaked out by the Teletubbies. Are they hairless cats? Why are they wearing footie pajamas? WHY IS THE SUN A BABY? The whole affair is terrifying. However, by mashing the Teletubbies up with the Ninja Turtles, I converted my fear into a super-dorky joke.
TAKE THAT, YOU TERRIFYING HAIRLESS CAT FOOTIE PAJAMA BABY-SUN-WORSHIPPING ABOMINATIONS.
So, at the end of the 20th century, there was a line of Jurassic Park action figures subtitled, Chaos Effect. The line centered around genetically engineered dinosaur hybrids. So while other people in my peer group were contemplating college graduation and finding a job versus moving back in with their parents, I was half-assing my classes while sitting around drawing fan-art of a spin-off of a movie action figure line.**
._.
Here’s Ankyloranodon, an ankylosaur/pteranadon hybrid:

Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect was actually a pretty cool toyline. I bought several of the figures, and they’re boxed up somewhere in my end-of-Raiders-of-the-Lost-Ark-esque closet full of toys. I would not be opposed to artistically revisiting these creatures. BUT I AIN’T MAKIN’ NO PROMISES.
**For the record, I graduated in 4 years, with a decent GPA, and I never moved back in with my parents.
Today’s post is a collection of gifts and thank-you sketches relating to Help the Cheerleader. I have been straggling on some of these, but here they are at last. My apologies to the folks who had to wait for these!
From left to right:
If I had posted this on Tuesday like I was supposed to… that would still be a terrible title. For those of you who kissed a girl before age 17, I will enlighten you as to the meaning of said title–The Rodians are an alien race in the Star Wars universe. And the most famous Rodian, of course, is Greedo:

As far as old pieces go, this isn’t the worst.
By the way… HAN SHOT FIRST. That is all.
How much better would that title have been if I posted this last Friday like I should have? Alas.

I guess this post is still somewhat timely, given the internet’s collective plotzing at the news of Michael Bay saying he will make the Ninja Turtles into aliens. Personally, I’m not too bothered about it either way.
Yeah, apparently I totally forgot to post. I have been preoccupied by WonderCon all weekend–posting will resume shortly! REALLY!
A post is coming late tonight/early tomorrow. Sorry for the delay!
When I post some old piece of art because I’m too busy to post something good, it probably feels like I’m punishing you, Dear Reader,. I apologize for these terrible artifacts that I inflict upon you from time to time, but please understand that the person who’s truly being punished is me.
My crimes: Poor planning resulting in a sub-standard post and drawing poorly “back in the day.” For the latter crime, there is no statute of limitations.
The sentence: My crude scrawlings from 13 years ago will be posted here, to be seen and derided until the internet falls into ruin.

This is some fan-art of Chichiri and Tasuki, two cool characters from a generally mediocre and melodramatic anime, Fushigi Yugi. Actually, all the characters in that series were cool, except for… oh you know, like, the MAIN four characters. But I digress.
I’m really not proud of this–the only thing I can say in my defense is that that this was drawn as an in-joke, because Fushigi Yugi was the one terrible anime series that we had to sit through at an otherwise excellently programmed anime club back in ye olde college dayes. Of course I can’t explain why I don’t have any fan art pertaining to the numerous good anime that we watched (Gundam Wing, Evangelion, YuYu Hakusho, Escaflowne, Macross plus, etcetera).
Woof.
Ralph McQuarrie, the concept artist for the original Star Wars trilogy, passed away over the weekend. His work raised the bar and forever changed the landscape for science fiction. Watching the Star Wars movies as a little kid, I naturally had no idea who he was. But a few years later, I discovered the “Art of Star Wars” books at the library, and I was blown away. I certainly knew who he was from that point on!
As a tribute, here’s a re-imagining of a well known scene from Star Wars, re-cast with the concept versions of Chewbacca and R2-D2:
This week, in honor of Mr. McQuarrie’s passing, we should all go create new worlds and new lifeforms… or at the very least, get some drawing done!
Blog post will be up late tonight/early tomorrow–apologies for my tardiness!

Today’s leftover commission is a true rarity–a like-able lawyer. Sure she’s fictional and green, but still!
